Dadโs Frozen Cookies
Updated April 28, 2011
My dad is famous for a lot of things, but these cookies are at the top of the list. My dadโs mom used to make these cookies for him, so this recipe goes way back in the family archives:)
These cookies are not the prettiest, they really donโt look special, but I am telling you, they are!!I have been eating these cookies since I was little. They are one of my favorites! They always remind me of good times:)
The key ingredients are oatmeal, chunky cinnamon applesauce, tons of cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, lots of vanilla, raisins, and chocolate chips. The cookies are nice and chunky! You get a mouth full of YUM in every bite!
The cookies taste great out of the oven, but our family eats them frozen. That is what makes these cookies special! As soon as they cool, bag them up or put them in a container in the freezer. I promise, they are SO much better frozen!
We buy Musselmanโs Cinnamon Chunky Applesauce for this recipe. Sometimes it is hard to find, so if you see it on the grocery shelf, stock up!
I know you will want to keep these cookies in the freezer at all times. That is another good thing, you can always have some on hand without them going bad! And donโt worry about thawing, you want them frozen for the best flavor!
Dadโs Frozen Cookies
ยฝ c. butter, softened
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 c. chunky cinnamon applesauce (Musselmanโs brand if you can find it)
1 c. raisins
2 T. vanilla
2 c. flour (maybe a bit more if the batter is too wet)
ยฝ tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Cinnamon
ยผ tsp. Cloves
ยฝ tsp. Nutmeg
1 tsp. Soda
2 ยฝ -3 c. oats
Chocolate chips- we use semi-sweet, and we never measure! Add what you like!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl cream butter, brown sugar, and egg. Mix in chunky applesauce. Add raisins and vanilla.
In a separate bowl sift flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and soda. Add into liquid mixture. Stir well.
Next, stir in oats and chocolate chips. Place cookies on a baking sheet and bake for about 12-14 minutes.
For the best results, freeze them after they are cool! They are SO good frozen!

Interesting idea! I like frozen pumpkin muffins so I bet I would love frozen cookies!
Yum! These are made with some of my favorite ingredients!
What a good idea and these cookies are made with some of my favorite stuff.
What an interesting combo! My favorite non-homemade cookie is Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mints (frozen), so I am partial to a frozen cookie myself. Happy New Year!
lol, iโve only eaten frozen cookies and maybe a muffin or two out of weakness ๐ these sound fantastic!
Frozen, that is so interesting! Iโve never heard of eating a frozen cookie before. Just the curiosity of it is going to force me to make them! ๐
itโs those passed-down recipes that have everything you wouldnโt think of that are the best. I would eat these up too.
Frozen cookies sound fantastic
That doesnโt surprise me about eating them frozen- I bet they taste wonderful! Your dad is an awesome cook- how fun!
These sound great! I am a raisin fan also. I think your dad and I would probably get along well!
That is wonderful! I agree with you, some of the best tasting cookies are just not eye candy! But love these.
Sounds like a hearty cookie! I love cookies that are frozen, too!
Those look so yummy! Isnโt it funny how temperature changes treats. I love frozen mini-Snickers more than room temp.
xo
Happy New Year!
Family recipes are hard to beat and this one sounds wonderful!
Iโm intrigued! If the recipe has been in your family for ages then itโll be a good one.
Weโve recently bought a new fridge/freezer where the freezer is on the bottom and Iโm having visions of my one year old boy getting at the cookies!
Your dad sounds like quite a cook! Iโll have to try these!
These look great. My husbandโs grandmother used to give him frozen cookies as a snack in the summertime.
You had me at chunky cinnamon applesauce. These sound wonderful! Not every cookie can be a show stopper, some are more subtle in their awesomeness. Thank you for sharing. I love a good oatmeal cookie, and Iโm looking forward to testing out this whole frozen cookie snacking recommendation.
Very interestingโฆ..I would love to try these! Thanks!

I gasped when I saw the picture of these cookies just now. I thought the recipe was a secret, but evidently not ๐

Your dads cookies look yummy and I love spices in baking.
Happy new year. ๐
Freezer cookies! Thatโs so unusual, but sounds great. Especially on a hot summer monthโ you can bake them ahead of time and pop them for a cool treat! ๐

They sound great frozen or not! I have a friend that also eat some cookies frozen and I think thatโs quite funny. Iโve actually tasted them and theyโre great!
Oh, now I understandโฆ At first I thought you meant to freeze the dough and cook as needed. But you actually eat the cookies frozen, thatโs so cool! (pardon the pun) ๐
LOL โ the not so pretty cookies often taste the best โ substance over style.
Very interesting, I have never had frozen cookies before, looking forward to trying these ๐
I made these yesterday and they were SO GOOD! I donโt even want to tell you how many I ate. My family loved them. I will make them again for sure ๐
These are my favorite cookies! So happy you liked them. We have some in the freezer right now. I better go eat one:)
I just put a pan of these in the oven!
Found this recipe in your cookbook and was so curious. Ate half of them fresh and froze the other half. Didnโt have chunky cinnamon applesauce on hand so used regular. I was shocked by how much I liked these. Definitely will be making them again and I want to always keep a stash in the freezer! Absolutely delicious!
Our family LOVES these cookies. Glad you do too!
