โ€œPoppy chowโ€ is my latest sugary obsession. It is similar to the popular cereal snack โ€œpuppy chow,โ€ but made with popcorn instead of Chex cereal. Popcorn is generously covered in chocolate, peanut butter, and then drenched with powdered sugar. When I saw ZoeDawnโ€™s recipe on Tasty Kitchen, I told myself I wasnโ€™t going to make it, even though I really wanted to. I was afraid of becoming addicted.ย Well, I couldnโ€™t get the poppy chow recipe out of my mind so I caved in and made a batch, indulged, and loved every bite. This chocolate peanut butter popcorn is heavenly!

For the recipe, check out my guest post on Tasty Kitchen. I am warning you, poppy chow is addicting! I am going to make a big batch to give away to friends for the holidays. It is simple to make and everyone will love it. And hopefully, it will make it out the door:)

  1. Oh boyโ€ฆreminds me of a snack my college roommate used to make back in the day. Was probably the #2 reason behind why i packed on a few pounds. Totally addictive

  2. Iโ€™m so glad you posted this! I love this stuff and have never made it. Itโ€™s dangerous to have this recipe. Itโ€™s too easy to makeโ€ฆ and WAY to easy to eat. Thanks for the recipe!

  3. K, so last time I made โ€œpuppyโ€ chow (although I refuse to call it that because I donโ€™t like imagining Iโ€™m eating dog food!) I told my husband that I bet it would be good on popcorn too. I canโ€™t wait to try it now- yours looks so good!

  4. Iโ€™m addicted to the โ€œpuppyโ€ chow version of this with Chex. This could be a seriously dangerous recipe ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I made this over the weekend as a test run for teacherโ€™s gifts. It was a HUGE hit! My son renames it โ€œChoco Popโ€. I am going to try a butterscotch version as well and then mix the two for gifts. Should be great. One quick question: my popcorn was really chewy. I have heard seeds can go bad and was wondering if my seeds were bad. Was your popcorn chewy as well?

    1. Hi Jana-I love the name and butterscotch sounds really good too! The popcorn is a little chewy-it almost melts in your mouth!

    2. I made a TON of this and my popcorn was chewy as well. I really enjoyed the flavor but the chewy popcorn, not so much. I would love to learn how to keep the popcorn crunchy! Any advice? Thanks!

    3. Maybe try using a little less chocolate and peanut butter so it isnโ€™t so drenched and doesnโ€™t get soggy. Mine was a little soft but not really chewy.

  6. I tried to leave a comment on the tasty kitchen post, but itโ€™s not working right nowโ€ฆAnyway, this was amazing. My sister is a devoted puppy chowoholic so it will be interesting to see how sheโ€™ll take me making it with popcorn:)

I want to make this for Christmas gifts. How long in advance do you think I could make it?

    Thanks so much

    1. So glad you like the Poppy Chow. It is sooo tasty:) I think you could make it 2-3 days in advance and be fine. Just keep it in an air tight container or in bags. Thanks!

  7. There is a real trick to making successful puppy chow โ€“ or in this case, Poppy Chow. A lot of times puppy chow doesnโ€™t taste that great (yes, I said it). But you clearly have it down; this looks delicious!

  8. Thanks for this awesome recipe! I have made it quite a few times since finding it (My version is peanut and caesin free)โ€ฆmost recently last night, where my son and I made a batch for a school snack. Seeing we are in Wisconsin, we renamed it โ€œBear Crumbs, what was left of the Bears after the game with the Packers.โ€ I suspect this classmates are going to love it! Thanks!!

  9. I was shocked to see this! I anticipated this to be something completely different (poppy chow made me think of my grandfather, I thought it might be something chewy with caramel or something) but I NEVER in my wildest dreams would think of making puppy chow with popcorn. I LOVE the idea!!!

  10. I just found this page for the poppy chow, it sounds yummy! When I try to go to the page you posted on, itโ€™s not there. Can I find the recipe somewhere else?
    Thanks for your help!
