Poppy Chow
Updated October 28, 2015
โPoppy chowโ is my latest sugary obsession. It is similar to the popular cereal snack โpuppy chow,โ but made with popcorn instead of Chex cereal. Popcorn is generously covered in chocolate, peanut butter, and then drenched with powdered sugar. When I saw ZoeDawnโs recipe on Tasty Kitchen, I told myself I wasnโt going to make it, even though I really wanted to. I was afraid of becoming addicted.ย Well, I couldnโt get the poppy chow recipe out of my mind so I caved in and made a batch, indulged, and loved every bite. This chocolate peanut butter popcorn is heavenly!
For the recipe, check out my guest post on Tasty Kitchen. I am warning you, poppy chow is addicting! I am going to make a big batch to give away to friends for the holidays. It is simple to make and everyone will love it. And hopefully, it will make it out the door:)

Oh boyโฆreminds me of a snack my college roommate used to make back in the day. Was probably the #2 reason behind why i packed on a few pounds. Totally addictive
OMG, I havenโt had puppy chow in years! I could eat a mountain of this stuff! I love it!
Iโm so glad you posted this! I love this stuff and have never made it. Itโs dangerous to have this recipe. Itโs too easy to makeโฆ and WAY to easy to eat. Thanks for the recipe!
Iโm afraid Iโm not going to be able to resist making poppy chow too! It looks too good not to make!
K, so last time I made โpuppyโ chow (although I refuse to call it that because I donโt like imagining Iโm eating dog food!) I told my husband that I bet it would be good on popcorn too. I canโt wait to try it now- yours looks so good!
I am hopeless around puppy chowโฆI imagine this would be the same! YUM!
This would be so dangerous for me โ I have no will power and I think Iโd eat the whole bowl!
oh my goodness, I would be so addicted to this!!!
Poppy Chow! too cute really.
This looks too, too good. I canโt wait to try.
Iโm addicted to the โpuppyโ chow version of this with Chex. This could be a seriously dangerous recipe ๐
I made this over the weekend as a test run for teacherโs gifts. It was a HUGE hit! My son renames it โChoco Popโ. I am going to try a butterscotch version as well and then mix the two for gifts. Should be great. One quick question: my popcorn was really chewy. I have heard seeds can go bad and was wondering if my seeds were bad. Was your popcorn chewy as well?
Hi Jana-I love the name and butterscotch sounds really good too! The popcorn is a little chewy-it almost melts in your mouth!
I made a TON of this and my popcorn was chewy as well. I really enjoyed the flavor but the chewy popcorn, not so much. I would love to learn how to keep the popcorn crunchy! Any advice? Thanks!
Maybe try using a little less chocolate and peanut butter so it isnโt so drenched and doesnโt get soggy. Mine was a little soft but not really chewy.
I tried to leave a comment on the tasty kitchen post, but itโs not working right nowโฆAnyway, this was amazing. My sister is a devoted puppy chowoholic so it will be interesting to see how sheโll take me making it with popcorn:)
I want to make this for Christmas gifts. How long in advance do you think I could make it?
Thanks so much
So glad you like the Poppy Chow. It is sooo tasty:) I think you could make it 2-3 days in advance and be fine. Just keep it in an air tight container or in bags. Thanks!
There is a real trick to making successful puppy chow โ or in this case, Poppy Chow. A lot of times puppy chow doesnโt taste that great (yes, I said it). But you clearly have it down; this looks delicious!
Thanks for this awesome recipe! I have made it quite a few times since finding it (My version is peanut and caesin free)โฆmost recently last night, where my son and I made a batch for a school snack. Seeing we are in Wisconsin, we renamed it โBear Crumbs, what was left of the Bears after the game with the Packers.โ I suspect this classmates are going to love it! Thanks!!
One of my favorite snacks too!
I was shocked to see this! I anticipated this to be something completely different (poppy chow made me think of my grandfather, I thought it might be something chewy with caramel or something) but I NEVER in my wildest dreams would think of making puppy chow with popcorn. I LOVE the idea!!!
So yummy! In the northeast, itโs called โMuddy Buddies.โ ๐
I just found this page for the poppy chow, it sounds yummy! When I try to go to the page you posted on, itโs not there. Can I find the recipe somewhere else?
Thanks for your help!
I updated the link. It should work now. Sorry about that!
